The Cake Angels is a volunteer ministry of “homemade giving and homemade love.”  Our goal as Cake Angels is to prayerfully provide personalized, home-baked birthday cakes to those who may be in hospice, the elderly in nursing homes, or for those who are in need of our love during a stressful time in their lives.  If you would like to become a Cake Angel and start a chapter in your area, these are the guidelines to follow:

1. You must obtain permission from the organization for which you wish to provide birthday cakes.  If you are not an active employee of the organization, or contracted through them, it is highly advisable to go through the proper procedures to become an official volunteer of that organization.  The Cake Angels are credible, reliable, and ethical individuals who have a sincere desire to be of service to others.
   
2. Once you are an established volunteer, or perhaps already an employee of an organization for which you are making birthday cakes, you will now need to coordinate certain information.  Consult with the organization’s Volunteer Coordinator, the nurses, the social workers, etc., to determine names and birthdays for the upcoming month.  Once a list of birthday cake recipients is determined, divide the cakes to be made among the Cake Angel group so that each cake will be made and no cake is forgotten.  How the cakes are to be delivered to those celebrating birthdays should be carefully thought out and determined on a case-by-case basis.  For example, a birthday cake may be delivered to a patient by a nurse, or perhaps a volunteer friendly visitor, or social worker.  This will need to be carefully coordinated to ensure smooth and consistent deliveries of the birthday cakes.
   
3. The Cake Angels, at this time, is solely supported financially by the volunteers themselves and those who have been so generous to contribute their own time, money, or supplies to this project.  We thank you so much!  We are inspired as a group to create ways to fund this project in the future.  We would love to incorporate sound, faith-filled fundraising ideas into a productive means of raising the necessary funding to continue to provide the birthday cakes to those who need our love and support.
   
4. What makes the Cake Angel birthday cakes so special is in the love and care that is poured forth into each cake that is baked.  The Cake Angels personally bake and frost each birthday cake.  But the most important aspect of the Cake Angel birthday cake is that our Cake Angels say prayers for the recipient of the cake.  Choose prayers that are of a healing and thankful nature (for example, the Divine Mercy Chaplet is an excellent prayer for this) and dedicate them to the individual receiving the birthday cake.  This should be a wonderful, patient part of the process and should not be rushed.  Do NOT undertake the Cake Angel responsibilities if you cannot pray for these beautiful people.  They are a precious part of our world and offering prayers of love and healing to God, for them, is a part of what it is to be a Cake Angel.
